One month ago, 2007 PingPong Carnival set up uniquely a Sino-Euro training battalion. 12 Sino-Euro pingpong teenagers struggle to win a chance to compete with active world champion in PingPong Carnival. And they themselves are hoped to be the leading figures in future world match.
The standpoint of Sino-Euro training battalion is to train opponents among palyers for themselves. It's believed that strong opponents will drive them to make greater progress and to be more competitive. Among the 12 pingpong teenagers, 6 are chinese from domestic pingpong clubs of first-class. The other 6 are european players recommended by well-known clubs in Europe and selected by Hunan TV. It's safe to say that the 12 players ranging from 10 to 18 years old represent the tiptop level of pingpong at their age in their own countries. Song Xu, from BaYi club of national champion, is one of the best pretices of Olympics chamion—Wang Tao, Liang Xianhao, from Beijing team, develops a school of his own by chop; On the other hand, European players all come from U.K. and Sweden, which stands for high level of teenage pingpong games. Albin is a member of Swedish national team of teenagers; and Arsili has presented British national team to take part in several world matches. In the training battalion, the palyers all received professional and comprehensive training from world champion Wang Tao and Liu Wei.
"I want to cultivate them for any challenges through this training, including Expand training, skills, and they should realize that to be a athelets in real sense, one has to try many things. "said coach Wang Tao. Having been held 4 times, it's the first time for Pingpong Carnival to gather sino-euro teenage elites in Hunan TV. They are elites of their own countries and may become the real opponents in future world piongpong games. “It is a creative idea to have a training battalion of this kind, which values the differences between Chinese players and European players. Evaluation in comprehensive strength of each player is not only based on matches broadcasted on TV but also on their life and training performance." said Liu Wei.
In the training battalion, pingpong teenagers are divided into Chinese and European groups. They are required to attend strict and professional tests, take part in extreme sports and join expand games to prove their teamwork spirit.. Arlebin said that he has learnt a lot about how to win the games and how to operate during the games:"especially when Song Xu and I practised in double men's game, we got much form coach Wang." It's interesting that Chinese players here always get the run upon European players on the pingpong court, but the latter do better in the expand games which highlights the teamwork spirit. These pingpong teenages gathered in Changsha for professional traing and they may become real opponents in future matches and fight for theire own countries.
